Sustainable future for
Zwolle
Our Vision
Sustainable Day Out In Zwolle
There are a lot of things you can implement in your daily routine to be more sustainable. For instance, when you wake up in the morning, you can eat your breakfast from foods you bought at the organic market or at Goody Foods. When you take a shower, you can decrease the time by a couple of minutes to save some water. You could shower with biological soap and shampoo you can buy at the Holland & Barret. When brushing your teeth you could use a bamboo toothbrush and if you brush your hair you could use a wooden one.
When going into the city, remember to take your bag with you, so you won't have to buy new plastic ones. Also, remember to take your water bottle with you. If it's possible, go by bike, it saves you money since you won't have to pay for parking and gas, and you stay fit!
Before you leave, check if you turned off the heaters and the lights. It saves money and a lot of energy. And instead of even using the heater you could wear a sweater.
When you are in the city, pay with your bank card from ASN or Triodos, the most environmental friendly banks of The Netherlands. Try to avoid buying products that are packaged in plastics. And for lunch, you can consider going to Engel Wikelcafe or Ingeburgerd. During you walk in the city, keep an eye on trash which you could throw away in the bin. You could even make sporting more environmental friendly by picking up the trash while jogging.
If your phone, or another device breaks, you could fix it at ICT Kringloop en reparatie or if it isn’t fixable anymore you could bring the broken device to and buy a refurbished one at Leapp.
When washing your clothes you could use a drying frame instead of a dryer.

How this all started
It all started in September 2019 when five international Global Project and Change Management students came to Zwolle. They all had the vision to change the world and create a more sustainable future. Within the subject of project management, the group soon got in contact with their client to start their first project. The client was Adri Geeve, a great man from the influential company Dutch State Mines. The cooperation seemed to be promising as DSM is focussed on creating a brighter future for everyone through the aspects of nutrition, health and sustainable living. Working together made the ideas bubble on how to improve the world around them.
Why not starting in front of the own house and improving the sustainable lifestyle in the own city?
Zwolle has so much to offer! Sweet sustainable orientated cafés, old-school second-hand stores or amazing organic food opportunities. But the problem is that people often are not aware of them. When we asked pedestrians and other students, we noticed many are tired of the word sustainability and do not even think it is an important topic. People expect certain stores and restaurant chains to be in every city. But what about great local, sustainable options?
We thought it must be possible to change the internal map people have of a city. So, we connected ourselves to the most sustainable businesses of Zwolle and conducted interviews with inspiring people working at those places. Collecting all the fun facts and worth knowing information made this website possible.
The project is the start of a movement called “Spark your Future” which is established by Adri Geeve and Patrick Nullens. It shall inspire the people to live more sustainably and develop hope for a brighter future. Next to creating this website, the students started weekly plogging sessions (running and picking up trash) to go into action and really show the Zwollenaars that there is hope for a bright future and courageous citizens leading the way our city.
With this website we want to inspire you, get you involved, and spark your future.
Feel the spirit of the city, experience your opportunities and develop hope for our brighter future!
